It assumes that you have Line-parents + tester-parents and their full crosses as genotypes in RCBDs. The texts within the (two matching) double quotes are the comments (ignored by Genstat) to help input the values of the parameters. Some input names would be mandatory as defined in the program. Save this file as text file. You must include the following identifier/abbreviation for the mandatory variables/vectors (factors) and design parameters. Vectors/factors TrialNo: column (factor) to represent trial. Rep : column (factor) to represent replication. Line: column (factor) to represent the line in the crosses or the parents (see note below). Tester: column (factor) to represent the tester in the crosses or the parents (see note below). Note: Genotypes (either crosses or parents) are represented by two columns a) Line, standing for the line and b) Tester, standing for the tester. When a genotype is referred as a cross, then both columns (Line, Tester) have non-missing values. When a genotype is referred as a parent, then one of the columns is non-missing while the other columnn must contain the missing '*' character. For example, if the genotype is a line-parent then it is represented by its number in the Line column and a * in the corresponding Tester column. Preparing the file: There are following 3 places of inputting information from your side. 1. First Input: List the variables you wish to analyze ; the whole list (items separated by commas) should be within single quotes. for example: ' BS, PLHT, GY ' 2. Variables for analysis are in Step 1, so thay must be exactly same as in Step 2, where they are being read for storing data values d. Missing data not allowed (as the computation of DFs used may affect the SE estimates).
